ISWAP Commander Abou Aisha Killed in Pulka Attack; No Casualties Among Troops - HQ Nigeria Army

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully thwarted multiple coordinated terrorist attacks in Pulka and Mandaragirau, Borno State, reinforcing their dominance in the region. The attacks, which occurred late on 14 February 2026, saw terrorists attempt to overrun defensive positions in both locations, but the troops responded with exceptional courage, heavy firepower, and tactical precision.

In Pulka, terrorists from the Sambisa Forest axis launched a fierce assault on Sector 1 troops. Despite breaching a section of the perimeter and causing some destruction, including the loss of combat enablers and accommodations, the troops mounted a swift counteroffensive. With reinforcements from the 26 Brigade, the terrorists were forced to retreat, suffering heavy casualties, including the death of their senior commander, Abou Aisha, who sustained a critical gunshot wound. No casualties were reported among the troops.

Meanwhile, in Mandaragirau, Sector 2 troops successfully fended off a multi-pronged attack by ISWAP terrorists mounted on gun trucks and motorcycles. Anticipating the assault, troops had strategically placed combat teams that engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, preventing any breaches. Tragically, some personnel and Civilian Joint Task Force members lost their lives during the defense, and a few soldiers sustained injuries. They were promptly evacuated by air for medical treatment.

Follow-up operations revealed blood trails, shallow graves, and abandoned items along the Kimba axis, indicating the significant losses suffered by the terrorists. Eyewitnesses reported the evacuation of multiple terrorist casualties, further underscoring the scale of enemy losses.

The Military High Command has praised the bravery, professionalism, and fighting spirit of the troops. These failed attacks highlight the growing desperation of terrorist elements as they come under sustained operational pressure. OPHK remains committed to dismantling terrorist networks, safeguarding communities, and restoring peace and stability to the North East region.
