Troops Neutralize Bandit, Recover Arms in Benue Clearance Operation

Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified their offensive against armed criminal elements in Benue State, successfully neutralizing one armed bandit and recovering a cache of weapons during a clearance operation at Mararaba Gbagir on Tuesday, July 30.

Acting on credible intelligence about the presence of suspected armed groups in the area, the troops launched a coordinated operation which resulted in a gun duel with the criminals. One suspect was killed during the exchange of fire, while several others reportedly fled the scene with gunshot injuries.

A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of six AK-47 magazines, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, two 7.62mm special rounds, one locally fabricated gun, and a locally made pistol. Troops also discovered and destroyed charms and makeshift shrines believed to be used for spiritual fortification by the criminals.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their courage, precision, and professionalism in executing the operation. He urged them to sustain the tempo of operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in Benue and surrounding states.

Reaffirming the task force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Major General Gara called on residents to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence to support ongoing military efforts.
