Explosion at Giwa Barracks Triggered by Excessive Heat — Military Authorities Clarify

The Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, has confirmed that the recent explosion at Giwa Barracks was caused by extreme heat, not an attack, as speculated by some reports.

In an official statement, the military explained that the explosion occurred at one of its ammunition storage facilities within the barracks due to the prevailing high temperatures in Maiduguri, which led to the unintended detonation of some munitions.

Authorities assured the public that the situation has been brought under control through the swift response of the Borno State Fire Service and additional fire units from various security agencies. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have also been deployed to secure the area and ensure that criminal elements do not exploit the incident.

Residents of Maiduguri and its environs have been urged to disregard any false claims of an attack within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and to remain calm, as the situation is under full control.
