troops rescue kidnap victim, recover AK-47 in Kogi
Troops of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, have rescued a 28-year-old kidnap victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Kogi State.
The troops, operating from Patrol Base Obajana, encountered the victim after he escaped from his abductors. During questioning, he disclosed that he was kidnapped from the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory about five weeks ago and had been held at a location in the area.
Acting on information provided by the victim, the troops moved to the identified location. The suspected kidnappers fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning the area.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle believed to have been left behind by the fleeing criminals.
The rescued victim was evacuated to a military medical facility for treatment.
The Nigerian Army said troops are continuing operations to track the fleeing suspects and dismantle their network, while urging residents to support security agencies with credible information.
