Troops Arrest Five Suspected Criminals Following Attack in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested five suspected criminals following a security operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The suspects were apprehended on June 4, 2026, after troops attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Karim Lamido responded to a distress call reporting an attack by armed assailants on communities within the area.
According to military authorities, the troops swiftly mobilised to the affected location but came under gunfire from unidentified attackers upon arrival. The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the assailants to flee. A subsequent pursuit operation led to the arrest of five suspects believed to be connected to the attack.
Items recovered during the operation included two motorcycles, machetes, daggers, assorted charms, gunpowder, and five mobile phones.
Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops for their courage, professionalism, and prompt response during the operation.
He reiterated the directive of the Chief of Army Staff for troops to remain vigilant and sustain ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements and deny them freedom of operation within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
The Brigade Commander also reassured residents of Taraba State of the military’s commitment to maintaining security and pursuing criminal elements wherever they may be hiding, stressing that operations would continue until lasting peace and stability are restored across the state.
