Police Rescue Four Kidnap Victims After Gun Battle with Suspects in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued four kidnapped victims following a gun battle with suspected kidnappers around the Jikoko Hills–Ushafa Forest axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident began on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after the command received a distress call at about 10:40 p.m. that armed kidnappers had invaded the Yellow House area of Mpape and abducted four residents.

Following the report, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, immediately deployed operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Katampe and Mpape Police Divisions, as well as personnel of the 24 Police Mobile Force Squadron, to respond to the attack.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers shot two victims during the operation before fleeing with four others towards Ushafa Forest through the Jikoko Hills. The two injured victims were rushed to a hospital, where one identified as Mr. Babangida later died from his injuries, while the other victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, is responding to treatment.

Police operatives continued their pursuit of the kidnappers until the early hours of Friday, July 10, 2026, when they located the suspects around Jikoko Hills while they were moving with the abducted victims towards the forest.

Upon sighting the approaching security team, the kidnappers opened fire, leading to a fierce gun battle. The police successfully overpowered the attackers, forcing them to abandon the victims and escape into the surrounding hills and forest.

All four kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed and safely evacuated before being reunited with their families. Police teams have continued a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

The FCT Commissioner of Police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest those behind the attack and bring them to justice. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
