Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Lagos, Neutralise Four Suspected Gunmen

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have thwarted an attempted abduction of a businessman in the Ejigbo area of Lagos, resulting in the death of four suspected kidnappers during a gun battle with security personnel.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night, May 24, 2026, around the Jakande Estate Gate in Ejigbo, following intelligence gathered by the Command’s Special Squad.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh Tijani, security operatives acted on credible intelligence indicating that a notorious kidnapping syndicate had planned to target a prominent businessman in the area.

Police authorities disclosed that the gang was known for targeting wealthy individuals and allegedly travelled into Lagos specifically to carry out high-profile abductions and other criminal activities.

The Commissioner further revealed that the suspected gang leader, identified simply as Ifeanyi, also known as “Ifeko,” was allegedly linked to previous kidnapping operations in Lagos and was believed to operate from abroad before returning to Nigeria to coordinate criminal activities.

Acting on the intelligence, police operatives reportedly moved to the scene and intercepted the suspects before the planned attack could be carried out.

Upon sighting the operatives, the suspects allegedly opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire between both parties. The police team reportedly responded with superior firepower, neutralising four members of the gang, while another suspect escaped with gunshot injuries.

During the operation, security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle, another firearm, live ammunition, and vehicles suspected to have been used by the gang.

Police authorities stated that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect and dismantle any remaining members of the criminal network.

The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
