Police Arrest Suspected Cultist, Recover Loaded Pistol, Foil Planned Attack in Lagos
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected cult member and recovered a locally made pistol loaded with a live cartridge during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of Lagos.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Yusuf Lamina Adigun, was apprehended after police intercepted a motorcycle carrying three passengers. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of the locally fabricated firearm containing one live cartridge.
According to the police, the suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity. He also allegedly disclosed that he and other members of the group, who remain at large, were on their way to carry out an attack before they were intercepted by security operatives.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the group and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state. He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to improve public safety.
