21 kidnapped victims rescued in joint operation in Kogi forests
Troops of 12 Brigade, 2 Division Nigerian Army, working with the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, local hunters and vigilantes, have rescued 21 kidnapped victims in the Egume–Ochaja forest axis of Kogi State.
The rescue operation was conducted on August 31, 2026, following the reported abduction of road users along the Alloma–Ejule–Itobe road.
Acting on credible intelligence on the victims’ whereabouts, the joint security team mobilised from the 21 Battalion Headquarters and conducted a coordinated search across the surrounding forests.
The victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were subsequently located and rescued. One male victim sustained a gunshot injury to the leg and was evacuated to the 21 Battalion Medical Reception Station for treatment.
The rescued victims are currently at the 21 Battalion Headquarters as arrangements are being made for their safe reunification with their families and relevant authorities.
The Brigade commended the participating security personnel for their coordination and efforts, while urging residents and road users to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
