Troops Rescue Woman, Infant After Kidnapping Attack in Kogi, Search Ongoing for Remaining Victims
Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, have rescued two kidnap victims following a rapid response to a kidnapping incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to the military, the attack occurred late on June 3, 2026, when armed kidnappers stormed a residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe and abducted five members of a family, including a woman, her six-month-old baby, and three other relatives.
Following a distress call, troops swiftly mobilised alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and launched a pursuit operation along the route taken by the abductors.
The sustained pressure from the joint security team reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon Mrs. Adekemi Idowu and her infant child near the Oro axis before fleeing into the surrounding area.
Both victims were successfully rescued and reunited with their family without harm.
Military authorities disclosed that troops have continued intensive search and rescue operations across the area to secure the release of the remaining abducted persons and track down those responsible for the attack.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
