Troops Repel Multiple ISWAP Attacks in Gajiram, Gajigana and Mayanti

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled coordinated attacks by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Mayanti, Gajigana and Gajiram.

The assaults, which occurred between late February 28 and the early hours of March 1, 2026, were successfully foiled, with troops maintaining control of their positions and inflicting casualties on the attackers.

At FOB Mayanti, soldiers came under heavy fire but held their ground as reinforcements advanced through ambushes and improvised explosive device threats to dislodge the attackers. Five suspected terrorists were confirmed dead, while troops recovered three PKT anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 launchers, four AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, three RPG bombs and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition. An officer was killed during the encounter.

In Gajiram, terrorists reportedly launched another attack around 1:15 a.m. on March 1 using heavy weapons and drones. The assault was repelled with support from air assets. Three bodies were recovered along the withdrawal route, alongside four AK-47 rifles, anti-tank bombs, locally fabricated mortar bombs, an armed drone and other equipment. One injured soldier was evacuated for advanced medical treatment.

Troops also thwarted an attack on Gajigana, maintaining full control of the base.

In separate operations across Sector 2, forces engaged suspected militants in Kayawa Village, where the attackers fled, abandoning motorcycles, bicycles and a tricycle. Two alleged ISWAP logistics suppliers were arrested, and drugs and medical supplies were recovered. During another ambush in Gujba LGA, two more suspected militants were killed and weapons recovered.

Military authorities said all affected locations remain under control, noting that the recoveries and reported casualties reflect continued efforts to degrade ISWAP’s operational capacity in the region.
