Troops Repel Coordinated Terrorist Attacks, Rescue Abducted District Head, Recover Weapons in Katsina, Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled multiple terrorist attacks, rescued an abducted district head, and recovered weapons during coordinated operations across Katsina State and Zamfara State.
The military said the operations, carried out on July 2, 2026, dealt significant setbacks to terrorist groups operating across the North-West while reinforcing efforts to protect lives and secure vulnerable communities.
In Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol engaged armed terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction after the suspects opened fire on the advancing security team. The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to flee. One AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles were recovered from the scene.
In a separate operation near Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded swiftly to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during the ensuing gun battle.
Elsewhere in Malumfashi Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of an attack on Farin Hawa Village, where armed terrorists riding motorcycles abducted the District Head, Mubarak Sharin. Security personnel pursued the fleeing attackers, killed one of the terrorists, disrupted the abduction, and rescued the traditional ruler.
Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops stationed at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area successfully repelled an attack on their position by suspected terrorists. Reinforcements joined the operation, forcing the attackers to retreat and abandon one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier, and a hydration pack.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage and professionalism of its personnel and collaborating security agencies, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups while working closely with local communities to enhance security and protect lives and property across the North-West.
