Troops Repel Coordinated Terrorist Attacks in Borno, Neutralise Insurgent Leaders

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on military positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok areas of Borno State.

The attacks, which occurred between about 2230hrs and 0300hrs, were launched by insurgents attempting to overrun troops’ locations. However, vigilant and determined soldiers mounted a strong defence, holding their positions despite the intensity of the assaults.

In response, troops carried out coordinated counter-operations, including flanking manoeuvres supported by reinforcement teams from Sectors 1 and 2. The joint action forced the attackers into disorganised retreats after suffering heavy casualties.

Military sources confirmed that several insurgent commanders, including key Amirs (leaders), were neutralised during the engagements, while many other fighters were eliminated during the counter-offensive.

Although some infrastructure within the affected bases sustained damage due to the intensity of the firefight, all military positions remain firmly under the control of Operation HADIN KAI forces.

The operation was further supported by the Air Component, which conducted multiple precision airstrikes overnight targeting fleeing terrorists and identified hostile positions. The airstrikes reportedly neutralised additional insurgents and significantly degraded the terrorists’ fighting capability.

Ground troops have since commenced exploitation operations across the affected areas, recovering the bodies of insurgents, weapons, and other combat equipment abandoned during the clashes.

However, the military confirmed that several soldiers lost their lives during the fierce battle, including a senior officer who reportedly led his troops from the front during the engagement. The fallen personnel were described as brave and dedicated soldiers whose sacrifices reflect the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defending the nation and protecting civilians.

Security authorities noted that the failed attacks highlight the increasing desperation of terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure across the North-East theatre. Operation HADIN KAI, however, maintains that it remains firmly in control of the operational environment.
