President Tinubu names Yari campaign DG as APC unveils 2027 election council
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the composition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, appointing former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.
The council was unveiled on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu will chair the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as vice chairmen.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was named Secretary, with APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman appointed Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Director-Generals representing the southern and northern zones.
Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, will oversee mobilisation, while James Abiodun Faleke will serve as Deputy Director-General for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
The media and strategic communications team will be led by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
Dele Alake will coordinate a five-member spokesperson team comprising himself, Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
Tinubu tasked the council with working towards securing victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections, while highlighting the administration’s achievements and its economic reform agenda.
The President also urged the campaign leadership to engage other party members who were not included in the formal structure but could contribute to the campaign.
The announcement comes as the APC begins preparations for the 2027 presidential contest.
