police arrest five over N100m mobile phone robbery in ogun
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects over the alleged armed robbery of a consignment of mobile phones and accessories worth about N100 million in Ogun State.
Operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) launched an investigation after receiving a petition from Sanniphil Company concerning the robbery. The investigation, which began on August 10, 2026, led to the arrest of the suspects in Ogun State.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects allegedly attacked a company vehicle around 7:00 p.m. on August 5 while it was transporting mobile phones and accessories from Lagos to Onitsha. The attackers reportedly carted away the consignment.
The suspects were identified as Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.
Police said 81 brand-new smartphones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects and secured as exhibits.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the alleged gang and recover the remaining stolen items.
The Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and businesses and tackling violent crime across the country.
