NIGERIAN ARMY DEBUNKS REPORTS OF HERDSMEN ATTACK IN BASSA LGA OF PLATEAU STATE

The Nigerian Army has debunked reports of a herdsmen attack in Bassa LGA of Plateau State.


On Tuesday October 5, it was reported that suspected armed herdsmen invaded Hukke village in Miango District of Rigwe Chiefdom, Bassa LGA of Plateau State.


Report indicate that the attack lasted for five hours without the intervention of security operatives and three residents were killed in the process while several houses were razed.


The Nigerian Army has however responded in a  statement by Ishaku Takwa, Military Information Officer, and said the report is 'unsubstantiated, laced with falsehood and churned out to ignite another cycle of violence on unsuspecting law abiding citizens'.


It said the attack on Hukke community lasted for only 20 minutes, not 5 hours as reported, noting that the troops responded swiftly to the distress call and foiled the attack.


He revealed no house was razed and that the unfortunate loss of 3 residents happened at the outskirts of the community prior to the arrival of the security operatives.


The Military Information Officer appreciated residents of Hukke community for the timely information that foiled the attack and urged all media outlets to quit reporting fake news.
