LAGOS HOSPITAL DENIES CONSPIRING WITH PATIENT’S LOVER TO DUPE HIM
The Lagos University Teaching Hospital has denied the allegation of conspiring with a patient’s lover to dupe him.
LUTH on Wednesday, May 20 released a statement referring to the claims of a Mrs Ngozi Adenuga, who is a sister to a patient currently receiving treatment in the hospital as “outright and malicious falsehood.”
The Teaching hospital emphasized that no LUTH official collected any money from the patient either directly, or indirectly.
“In fact, apart from the initial one week deposit, no other payment has been made by or for the patient till date,” the statement signed by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, K. O. Otuneme said.
According to LUTH, Mrs Adenuga had been in possession of the patient’s phones since his admission because patients are usually not allowed to access their phones in the Psychiatric ward.
However, the caregivers noticed that Mrs Adenuga had been bringing cheques to the patient to sign while on the hospital bed and was told to desist, the hospital said.
LUTH explained that the patient plead with his caregivers to retrieve his ATM cards, phones, and cheques from his sister when he noticed numerous unauthorized debits alerts on his phone.
Mrs Adenuga handed over the phones on March 30, 2020, but refused to handover the ATM cards and cheques till date, the statement said.
After thorough investigations by the social workers, it was revealed that about N12 million had been withdrawn from the patients account between the date of his admission February 7 and April 30.
LUTH claims that Mrs Adenuga had been insisting that the patient be discharged against medical advice despite her not being the patient’s next of kin.
LUTH alleged that Mrs Adenuga has been “problematic most unreasonable, and uncooperative in the treatment of her brother and did not demonstrate “altruistic concerns” for his wellbeing.
The hospital h said it has called on the police to investigate and reveal the identity of those who assessed the patient’s account without his authorization.
The management also said it is committed to giving maximum support to the named staff of the hospital who have allegedly been slandered by Mrs Adenuga.
