IGP Strengthens Police Technical Intelligence Unit with Advanced Technology and Training
In a decisive move to enhance intelligence-led policing and combat violent crimes across the country, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has fortified the Nigeria Police Force’s Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) with state-of-the-art technological tools and applications.
The upgraded capabilities are aimed at improving crime detection, prevention, and the swift apprehension of criminals. According to a statement from Force Headquarters, the acquisition of advanced equipment is part of ongoing reforms to align police operations with modern global intelligence standards.
In addition to the technological boost, the IGP has ordered the commencement of comprehensive training programs for TIU personnel. These trainings are designed to equip officers with the necessary skills to effectively operate newly introduced systems, ensuring the Force remains responsive to the rapidly evolving landscape of crime and security.
“The continuous shift in crime patterns globally and within Nigeria necessitates the timely and consistent transformation of our crime-fighting strategies,” the IGP stated, noting that recent high-profile arrests—such as the dismantling of an arms trafficking syndicate operating in Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau States—reflect the growing success of intelligence-led operations.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, IGP Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the Police Force under his leadership will continue to deploy proactive and technology-driven measures to prevent criminal activities and effectively tackle emerging security threats nationwide.
