
Delta Police Arrest Armed Robbery, Gunrunning Suspects in Sting Operations, Recover Firearms and Ammunition
The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda, has intensified its fight against crime and criminality across the state with recent successful operations leading to the arrest of suspected armed robbers, cultists, and gunrunners. A cache of arms, ammunition, and other exhibits were also recovered during the operations.
In the early hours of June 11, 2025, at approximately 3:45 a.m., operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, acted on credible intelligence and raided a residence in the Adams Street area of Mosogar. The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects: Koko Josh, 29, from Otor-Iyede Community in Isoko North LGA, and Asomugha Clinton, 27, from Mbaisse Community in Ezinihitte LGA, Imo State.
A search warrant executed at the premises led to the recovery of:
One fabricated Baretta pistol loaded with two live rounds
Two locally made cut-to-size guns
Eight live cartridges
Multiple mobile phones
A laptop
Various fetish substances.
Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects believed to be members of the Aiye confraternity: Anthony Kelvin, 26, from Orhoakpor Community in Ethiope East LGA, and Gift Amotsuka, 25, from Jakpa Community in Warri North LGA.
In a separate development on June 13, 2025, around 4:00 p.m., CP-SAT operatives carried out another sting operation in the Okpanam area of Asaba. The team arrested two suspects: Ekene Chroma, 36, from Issele-Uku, and Okafor Jonathan, 18, from Onicha-Ugbo, both in Aniocha North LGA. A search of their residence led to the recovery of:
Two English-made single barrel guns
110 live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were engaged in illegal gunrunning activities. All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda commended the public for their support and timely intelligence, noting that the recent breakthroughs would not have been possible without community cooperation. He urged other well-meaning residents to continue partnering with the police to ensure a safer and more secure Delta State.
