
Brigadier General Suleiman Tillawan Assumes Command as New Sector 3 Commander
Brigadier General Suleiman Tillawan has officially assumed duty as the 14th Commander of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), following a formal handover ceremony held on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, at the Sector Headquarters in Monguno, Borno State.
General Tillawan, who previously served as the Chief of Staff at Army Headquarters Garrison, takes over from Major General Mohammed Babayo. During his tenure, General Babayo was credited with notable strides in enhancing regional security and leading counterterrorism operations across northern Borno.
Speaking at the ceremony, General Babayo, who is proceeding to a new role as Director, Lessons Learnt, at the Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command, expressed gratitude to God Almighty for a successful tenure. He also appreciated the dedication and support of officers and soldiers under his command. He described his successor as a seasoned officer with vast operational experience, expressing confidence that General Tillawan would build on the existing successes and continue to confront the region’s security challenges effectively.
In his remarks, General Tillawan described his appointment as a great privilege and lauded his predecessor’s leadership and achievements. He pledged to consolidate on past gains and intensify efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. He also wished General Babayo continued success in his new assignment.
Highlights of the handover ceremony included the signing of handover notes, the outgoing commander’s farewell address to officers and soldiers, a group photograph, the ceremonial lowering and hoisting of the new commander’s flag, and an inspection of the quarter guard.
