Troops Neutralize Two Terrorists, Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Eight Suspects, Recover 110 Stolen Cattle in North-West Operations

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified offensive operations against terrorist and bandit groups across Nigeria's North-West, recording major successes in coordinated missions carried out between June 27 and 28, 2026.

According to the task force, the operations resulted in the neutralization of two suspected terrorists, the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of eight suspected collaborators and logistics facilitators, and the recovery of 110 rustled cattle.

In one of the operations conducted on June 27, troops of Sector 1, supported by members of the Vigilante Group, encountered terrorists transporting kidnapped victims on motorcycles during fighting patrols in Giwa Local Government Area and Kaduna North Local Government Area. Following an intense exchange of gunfire, the assailants abandoned two motorcycles and fled into nearby bushes. Security personnel successfully rescued one abducted victim alive but recovered the body of another victim who had reportedly been killed by the terrorists.

Later that day, troops responded to a distress call following an attack on Dariya Village in Giwa LGA, where one civilian was killed and three others were injured before security forces arrived. The troops pursued the fleeing attackers, intercepted them on motorcycles, and engaged them in another gun battle, killing two suspected terrorists. Recovered from the scene were a motorcycle, ammunition, charms, and other personal belongings.

In a separate intelligence-driven operation, troops of Sector 2 arrested two suspects in Magami, Gusau Local Government Area, over allegations of providing medical support to terrorist groups operating within the area.

Similarly, troops on patrol around Polewire Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area apprehended six individuals found under suspicious circumstances after engaging fleeing terrorists. The suspects are currently undergoing investigation.

On June 28, troops of Sector 1, working alongside local vigilantes in Chikun Local Government Area, launched an operation against cattle rustlers. Acting on intelligence, the security team laid an ambush along the suspected escape route at Ungwan Gora bush, forcing the rustlers to abandon 110 stolen cattle and flee. The recovered livestock were later returned to their rightful owners.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements across the North-West, while urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance ongoing operations.
