Nigerian Army intercepts arms trafficking network, recovers illegal weapons in Kaduna

Troops of Sector 7, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have disrupted a suspected arms trafficking operation and recovered a cache of illegal weapons during an intelligence-led operation in Kaduna State.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Monday, 13 July 2026, following credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms from Jos, Plateau State, to Niger State.

According to the Nigerian Army, troops conducted a targeted stop-and-search operation at the Samaru Checkpoint in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, where an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz was intercepted.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and four submachine guns (SMGs) concealed inside the vehicle.

During the operation, one suspect reportedly attempted to evade arrest and was shot while fleeing. He was immediately evacuated to the Sector 7 Medical Centre in Kafanchan, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered weapons were allegedly supplied by two suspected arms dealers operating in Jos and were being transported to an intended recipient in Niger State.

The Nigerian Army said the successful operation highlights its commitment to curbing arms proliferation and dismantling criminal networks threatening national security.

The Army also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts against criminal activities across the country.
