NAF conducts air operation, disrupts suspected terrorist activity in Zamfara
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out an armed reconnaissance mission over parts of Zamfara State, disrupting the activities of suspected terrorists operating around the Bayarzaki River area.
The operation was conducted on 12 August 2026 following credible intelligence indicating the movement of suspected terrorists in the area.
An NAF A-Jet was deployed to conduct aerial surveillance over Bayarzaki and surrounding locations, including Ruwan Rana, Sabli, Kada Daba, Kwana Maje, Nasarawa, Rafin Gero, Ramfashi and Mumuma Hill.
During the mission, further intelligence indicated that suspected terrorists were concealed south of the riverline. The aircraft subsequently engaged the identified position from the air.
Following the engagement, no further movement was observed in the area. The aircraft maintained aerial surveillance for some time before safely returning to base.
The operation forms part of the NAF’s intelligence-driven efforts to monitor and disrupt terrorist and other criminal activities across the country while providing air support to ground forces conducting security operations.
The Air Force said its operations involve coordinated efforts among intelligence personnel, aircrew, mission planners, engineers, logistics teams and other specialists to ensure timely responses to emerging threats.
The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to sustained surveillance and targeted air operations aimed at restricting the freedom of movement and operational activities of terrorist and criminal groups, particularly in areas affected by insecurity.
The Force also reiterated its resolve to work alongside other security agencies to protect communities, safeguard lives and support ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
