bandits invade Katsina Shari’ah court, judge escapes through window

A Shari’ah Court judge, Mohammed Muktar, narrowly escaped death or abduction after suspected bandits stormed a courtroom in Gwarjo village, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Wednesday, 29th July.

According to reports, the armed men invaded the court while firing sporadically and repeatedly demanded to know the whereabouts of the judge.

The judge reportedly spotted the approaching attackers before they reached the courtroom and escaped through a window moments before they arrived.

A witness said a commercial motorcyclist assisted the judge in fleeing the area, a move believed to have saved his life.

After discovering that the judge had escaped, the attackers allegedly threatened to kill him if he returned to preside over court proceedings in the community.

No casualties were immediately reported during the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attack.
