Army Storms Bandit Enclaves in Kwara, Neutralises Terrorists in Forest Flush Offensive
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 22 Armoured Brigade, under 2 Division, have recorded significant successes against terrorist elements in Kwara State following sustained offensive operations conducted between January 23 and 29, 2026.
The operations, code-named Operation Igbo Danu (Operation Forest Flush), were carried out with strong support from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) across the Joint Operations Area. They were led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebife, alongside the Commander of 22 Brigade, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.
During coordinated fighting patrols into identified bandit enclaves, troops neutralised several terrorists, while others fled into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds. Multiple hideouts and camps were destroyed, effectively dislodging the criminal elements.
In a related operation, troops cleared Garin Dandi in Ifelodun Local Government Area, a known bandit stronghold, dismantling logistics bases and supply routes used by the criminals. Remote camps previously inaccessible to security forces were also overrun, with key logistics enablers destroyed, significantly weakening terrorist sustainment capabilities.
Despite the challenging terrain, troops maintained an aggressive posture, intercepting fleeing suspects at blocking positions, arresting suspected bandits, and rescuing several kidnapped victims from various camps across the state.
Military authorities noted that some bandits receive support from local collaborators who provide intelligence on troop movements. The successes recorded underscore the Division’s resolve to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security in Kwara State.
Major General Nnebife has urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations, assuring that efforts will persist until all terrorist networks in the state are decisively neutralised.
