Troops rescue kidnap victim, recover 126 rustled livestock, arrest suspects in Katsina operations

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded multiple operational successes in Katsina State, rescuing a kidnap victim, arresting suspects during a joint raid, recovering a locally fabricated firearm and rescuing 126 rustled livestock in separate operations.

According to the military, troops, in collaboration with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, responded to a distress call in the early hours of 26 July 2026 over terrorist activity at Karkata Village in Charanchi Local Government Area.

While advancing to the scene, the troops encountered the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their kidnapped victim before fleeing into nearby bushes. The victim was rescued unharmed and safely reunited with her family.

In a separate operation, troops of Sector 2, working alongside personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), carried out coordinated raids at Wagin, Tundu Mobi and Chadawaki communities in Batsari Local Government Area.

The operation led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm loaded with five cartridges, alongside other exhibits. The suspects and recovered items were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.

Also on 26 July 2026, troops acting on credible intelligence laid an ambush along a suspected terrorist crossing point at Yankwani Village in Bakori Local Government Area.

The troops engaged suspected terrorists attempting to move rustled livestock through the area, forcing them to flee under sustained military pressure and abandon the animals.

A total of 126 rustled livestock, comprising 83 cows and 43 sheep, were recovered and handed over to the Chairman of the Peace Keeping Committee in Bakori, in the presence of local government officials, for identification and return to their rightful owners.

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the gallantry and vigilance of the troops, reaffirming the military's commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements across Katsina State and the wider North West region.
