Troops Rescue Three Kidnap Victims, Neutralize One Suspect in Benue Operation
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued three kidnapped victims and neutralized one kidnapper during a clearance operation in Gbise, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The operation, carried out by troops of Sector 1 on July 24, 2025, followed credible intelligence about the presence of abducted persons held in a secluded building within the town.
Upon arriving at the location, the troops came under sporadic fire from armed kidnappers. In the ensuing gunfight, the criminals fled, with some suspected to have sustained gunshot wounds. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the body of one fleeing kidnapper.
The rescued victims were identified as Isa Saidu (28) from Gombe State, Gosephen Michael (39) from Jos, Plateau State, and Sunday Apesuur (42) from Tordonga, Benue State. They were reportedly abducted while en route to Katsina-Ala. The victims have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Division in Tor Donga for further action and eventual reunion with their families.
Commending the troops, Force Commander Major General Moses Gara praised their professionalism and bravery. He urged them to remain committed to protecting law-abiding citizens and assured continued support for their welfare and operational readiness.
General Gara also appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing timely and actionable intelligence to aid the dismantling of criminal hideouts in the region.
