Troops rescue 16 civilians, foil abductions in Zamfara, repel attack in Sokoto
Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 16 civilians during separate operations that disrupted attempted abductions in Zamfara State and repelled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.
In Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara, troops responded to a distress call on August 28, 2026, after terrorists attempted to abduct residents of a community. The attackers fled following the arrival of the troops, leading to the rescue of four civilians.
Later the same day, troops responding to reports of terrorist activity around Kwanoni Village in Tsafe LGA encountered gunmen attempting to abduct passengers from two vehicles. The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat and abandon their victims. All 12 passengers were rescued without any reported casualty among the troops.
Meanwhile, in Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto State, troops confronted terrorists who attacked the Jabo area. The attackers were forced to withdraw following a gun battle with the troops. Two civilians who sustained gunshot injuries were evacuated for medical treatment.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said troops have continued to dominate the affected areas and maintain pressure on terrorist elements to prevent further attacks and protect civilians across the North West.
