troops repel attack on Rim community as three residents are killed in nearby Gwarim
Troops have repelled an attack by suspected Fulani bandits on Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, while three residents were reportedly killed in a separate incident in nearby Gwarim.
According to security sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the first incident occurred on Tuesday, August 25, when troops responded to an attack on Rim at about 6:08 p.m.
The troops engaged the attackers and successfully forced them to retreat, with no casualties reported among the security personnel or community members.
About 38 minutes later, troops received another distress report over gunfire in Gwarim, also in Riyom LGA.
Upon arriving at the scene, the troops found the bodies of three residents who had reportedly been keeping watch in the bush outside the community when they were attacked.
The victims’ bodies were recovered and handed over to members of the community for burial arrangements and other necessary action.
Security forces have intensified patrols and surveillance in the area as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The incidents have further heightened security concerns in Riyom and other vulnerable communities across Plateau State.
