Troops recover large herd of rustled cattle in Sokoto as residents hail operation
Residents of Asarara Kaura Community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State have commended troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, after a swift operation led to the recovery of a large herd of cattle allegedly rustled by armed terrorists.
The operation followed credible intelligence that terrorists had infiltrated the community, terrorised residents and forcibly taken a significant number of livestock.
Acting on the information, troops moved to intercept the attackers as they attempted to escape with the cattle. The terrorists were intercepted along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi Road axis, where they engaged the troops in a gun battle.
Unable to withstand the troops’ firepower, the terrorists reportedly fled into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, abandoning the entire herd of cattle.
The intervention triggered jubilation among residents of Asarara Kaura and neighbouring communities, who gathered to commend the troops for their prompt response and efforts to protect lives and livelihoods.
The recovered cattle have been placed in military custody pending their formal handover to the Chairman of the Sokoto State Committee on the Recovery of Rustled Animals.
The committee will oversee the verification process and ensure the livestock are returned to their rightful owners.
