Troops raid suspected IPOB/ESN strongholds in Anambra, recover weapons and IED materials
Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have raided suspected IPOB/ESN strongholds in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, recovering firearms, motorcycles and materials believed to be used for making improvised explosive devices.
The operation was conducted on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in collaboration with the Maritime Component, Department of State Services (DSS) and Anambra Vigilante Group.
The security team carried out a coordinated dawn operation at suspected hideouts in Obene and Abator villages within Ochuche and Umunankwo communities.
According to the Nigerian Army, the suspected terrorists opened fire after sighting the advancing troops before abandoning their positions and fleeing. Troops returned fire and pursued the fleeing group, with blood stains reportedly observed along their escape route, suggesting that some of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds.
During the operation, one suspected member of the group was neutralised, while other fleeing members reportedly escaped with the body of another suspected casualty.
A search of the abandoned locations led to the recovery of two pump-action guns, two motorcycles, IED-making materials and other items.
The Army said the recovery of the explosive-making materials would further limit the group’s ability to produce improvised explosive devices for attacks.
Troops have since intensified operations around the area to locate the fleeing suspects and prevent them from regrouping.
The Nigerian Army, through Operation UDO KA and in collaboration with other security agencies, reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against criminal and terrorist networks across the South-East.
