Terror in Agbogudu: Police Officers Slain, Vehicles Burned in Checkpoint Attack
Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have killed two police officers during a deadly ambush on a checkpoint in Agbogugu, a community along the Enugu-Ozalla-Port Harcourt Old Road in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, saw the attackers setting ablaze a police patrol van and a Sienna vehicle used for operations, ensuring they were completely destroyed. The assailants also reportedly made away with the officers' firearms before fleeing the scene.
Eyewitnesses, who spoke under anonymity, said the attackers encountered no resistance and calmly exited through Agbogugu town after the assault. The fallen officers were identified as the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and another officer popularly known as "Big."
Following the attack, police operatives from Enugu arrived at the scene and evacuated the charred vehicles.
