Taraba: Troops Foil Robbery, Rescue Abducted Victims and Recover Arms in Multiple Operations

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, under Operations Peace Shield and Zafin Wuta, have recorded major operational gains across Taraba State, disrupting criminal activities, rescuing abducted victims, and retrieving illegal weapons in separate missions.

On 6 December 2025, troops stationed at Manya responded to a distress call about armed robbers who had blocked the Manya–Takum Road, dispossessing travellers. Soldiers immediately mobilised and launched a clearance operation. The criminals fled upon sighting the advancing troops, abandoning their weapons. A subsequent search led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, restoring safety and free movement along the route.

In a separate incident on 7 December 2025, troops at Kufai Amadu received credible intelligence that four travellers from Bauchi State had been abducted at Amadu Town while heading to Baissa in Kurmi LGA. Investigations revealed that the victims, unfamiliar with the area, stopped to seek directions when Mr Musa Danji and Mr Yusuf were seized by armed men and taken toward New City. Troops immediately launched a coordinated search and rescue mission.

During the operation, Mr Yusuf Musa and Mr Muhammed Umar were successfully rescued after managing to escape from their captors. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining victims, while intensified operations aim to apprehend the abductors.

Similarly, on 6 December 2025, troops deployed at Iware conducted a search operation at Garin Sambo, Tau Village, in Ardo Kola LGA, following actionable intelligence. The operation led to the recovery of two pump-action guns, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles, and four Tecno phones. Two suspects—Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda—were arrested for unlawful possession of arms. All recovered items and suspects are in military custody for further investigation.

Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, applauded the troops for their professionalism, courage, and swift response. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s determination to sustain aggressive operations under Operation Peace Shield and Operation Zafin Wuta to eliminate criminal activities across Taraba State.

He further assured residents and travellers—particularly during the ongoing Yuletide season—of the Brigade’s commitment to securing highways and communities to ensure safe and unhindered movement.

General Uwa also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies to support ongoing stabilisation efforts across the state.
