SENATE GIVES BUHARI DEADLINE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF 2021 BUDGET

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has requested President Muhammadu Buhari to submit the 2021 national budget before the end of September this year. 


Lawan stated this on Wednesday, July 22, while referring to the 2021-2023 Median Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), which were submitted to the appropriate committee of the Senate by the President on Tuesday, for legislative actions. 


According to the Senate President, early submission of the budget would enable the National Assembly to work on it and pass before the end of December.

"The request of Mr President is referred to the Committee on Finance and National Planning and to report back within four weeks."


Lawan urged the concerned committee members to collaborate with all the revenue generating committee to ensure a smooth job.


During the plenary, the lawmakers also considered the request of President Buhari on the confirmation of the nomination of Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu for Appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). 


The request of the presidency was in accordance with the paragraph 14(3) of part 1 of the Third Schedule of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, according to the upper chamber. 


The Senate President hereby referred the request to the committee on INEC and  asked it to report back within two weeks.
