
Security Forces Captures IPOB Commander 'Gentle de Yahoo' in Imo Raid
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a wanted commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, popularly known as Gentle de Yahoo.
Okorienta was apprehended by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade during a joint operation with other security agencies at his hideout in Aku-Ihube, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
During the raid, troops recovered a cache of arms and logistics items, including an English pistol, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, a cartridge, six mobile phones, military and police uniforms, and a German flag. Security forces also uncovered a workshop where stolen vehicles were being dismantled for resale and destroyed 10 motorcycles found at the site.
In parallel operations across other states, troops rescued a total of 11 kidnapped victims: five in Madagali, Adamawa State; four in Malumfashi, Katsina State; and two in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Troops also recorded notable successes against violent groups. In Katsina, two terrorists were neutralised, with an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle recovered. In Benue, soldiers eliminated an armed extremist and seized charms and a mobile phone. Meanwhile, 11 suspects linked to armed robbery, gunrunning, and violent extremism were arrested across Benue, Kogi, and Kaduna States.
Additionally, security forces in Plateau State recovered 40 rustled cattle and returned them to their rightful owners.
The Army attributed these successes to ongoing synergy with other security agencies and reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating criminal networks across the country.
