PRESS BRIEFING BY LAGOS STATE POLICE COMMAND HELD AT THE COMMAND HEADQUARTERS ON FRIDAY MAY 20, 2022.

Members of the press, we present to you today some of our achievements in the fight against crime and criminality within Lagos State in the past one month or thereabout. Before you today are suspects arrested for varying crimes including armed robbery, conspiracy,cultism, unlawful possession of fire arms, murder, etc.

From these cases which we successfully cracked, we recovered 15 locally made pistols, 68 live cartridges, 4 handsets, 1 axe, charms, 2 cutlasses,1 saw, 1 pounding pistol, 1 female bag, 1 tortoise.

Find below a summary of these aforementioned cases.

 

1.   UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF ARMS: On 23rdof April, 2022, one Aji Augustine ‘m’ of Ibeju Lekki, Lagos went to receive food items sent to him by his mother from Cross River State through a driver who mistakenly gave him a sack that was meant to be delivered to someone else. When he opened the sack, he discovered seven (7) locally made pistols. He rushed to the nearest police division and handover thearms. Upon receipt of the case, detectives embarked on diligent investigation that led to the arrest of one Joseph Ashiwobel ‘m’ who dispatched the sack from Calabar to Lagos. During interrogation, he confessed that he had sold many guns to his customers here in Lagos and he led operatives to arrest two of his buyers one Rasheed Ogunbade ‘m’ age 39yrs and AladeokinAhmad ‘m’ 38yrs. Also one locally made shot gun bought from Joseph Ashiwobel was recovered. Investigation is still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects in order to recover more of the guns he had sold to people in Lagos.

 

2.  MURDER:  On 12th of May, 2022, at about 0630hrs, at Studio 24, Lekki, Lagos, an okada rider by name Dahiru ‘m’ had a quarrel with his passengers by name Frank Olatunji ‘m’ and Philip Balogun ‘m’ over the bike fare. In the heat of the argument, Frank Olatunji and Philip Balogun invited the one David Sunday ‘m’ to mediate only for Dahiru and his cohorts to violently attack him, kill him and set him ablaze. A total of six suspects have been arrested namely DahiruAyuba ‘m’, Susan Moses ‘f’, Christopher Dauda ‘m’, Joseph Tella ‘m’, Chigozie Anthony ‘m’, Sunday Azi‘m’. Suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation. 

 

3.  CONSPIRACY, ARMED ROBBERY AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS:  On 10th May, 2022, at about 0915hrs, based on available information, a team of detectives of the Lagos State Command swung into action and arrested some armed robbery suspects in their hideout situated around Ojoarea of the State and recovered exhibits in their possession. The names of these suspects are GamboAbdulhadi ‘m’ 28yrs, Eric Komi ‘m’ 19yrs, Yusuf Ibrahim ‘m’ 15yrs and Suleiman Alhassan ‘m’ 25yrs.Seven (7) locally made pistols, Sixty-Eight (68) live cartridges, cutlasses, axe, charms, four (4) mobile phones, tortoise and a female bag were recovered from the suspects. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects in connection with this case and recover more arms and ammunition.  

 

4. CULTISM:  On 20th February, 2022, one Ayo Dada ‘m’ now deceased and two others who were cult members were killed by some suspected rival cultmembers at Ketu, Mile 12, Lagos. On 21st February, 2022, one Sunday Tomoloju and other members of hiscult group went on a reprisal mission to avenge their late members, and killed one Adesegun Adesanya ‘m’ a.k.a. Ologodudu. Upon receipt of this information, detectives tracked down the principal suspect Sunday Tomoloju ‘m’ in his remote stronghold where he was apprehended. During investigation, the suspect made a confessional statement to the commission of the said crime. Investigation is still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects in a bid to recover their operational weapons.
