Presidency loses senior official in Kano
Peter Onwubuariri, a senior official of the State House, has died in Kano following a prolonged illness.
Onwubuariri, who was 48, served as Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations at the Presidency. He reportedly died on Monday.
His wife, Catherine Ezinna Onwubuariri, confirmed his death.
The late journalist had been undergoing treatment at the Kano Cancer Centre for about a month under a treatment authorization from the state government before his death.
His remains were released on Tuesday by the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) for burial in Owerri, Imo State.
The remains were formally handed over to Oche Echeija Egwa, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, on behalf of the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga. The handover was carried out by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In a condolence message issued through his spokesperson, Governor Yusuf described Onwubuariri as a highly professional journalist who made significant contributions to presidential reputation management.
The governor also commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the Presidential Media Unit over the loss.
Onwubuariri previously worked with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), where he was known for his dedication and professionalism in journalism.
