OYO LAWMAKER, HON AKIN ALABI FILES MOTION TO DISSOLVE SARS

Akin Alabi, lawmaker representing Egbeda and Ona-Ara Local Government in Oyo State, has filed a motion before the House of Representatives to dissolve operatives of the Special Anti-Robber Squad (SARS).

Hon. Alabi, who said that the SARS operatives had committed enough atrocities, stated they have become so lawless that even the Inspector General of Police (IGP) can no longer tolerate their excesses.

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), on Sunday, October 4, 2020, responded to the groaning of Nigerians who took to the media to vent their anger towards the anti-robbery unit’s incessant harassment, exploitation, and killings.

The Police Chief banned the operatives and other Tactical Squads of the Force, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties.

Other tactical squads banned from routine patrols include; the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad and other Tactical Squads operating at the Federal, Zonal and Command levels.

“Policing in Nigeria continues to fall short of modern practices where citizens should be treated with utmost respect and decorum, therefore making it very difficult for an average citizen to truly trust that the police are their friends,” Hon. Alabi said.

Honourable Akin Alabi is a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur and author. He is the author of the business and marketing book, Small Business Big Money and also the founder of NairaBET Nigeria’s pioneer sports bookmaking company.
