OPHK Troops Foil Attack in New Marte, Kill Dozens of Insurgents, Recover Weapons
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), supported by air components, successfully repelled a Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on New Marte, Borno State, in the early hours of May 27, 2025. The foiled incursion resulted in the neutralization of dozens of terrorists.
The insurgents attempted to infiltrate the troops’ location, but were met with stiff resistance from soldiers of the 24 Task Force Brigade Garrison and 134 Special Forces Battalion. A fierce firefight ensued, and the Air Component promptly provided Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) alongside offensive airstrikes, decimating the fleeing terrorists.
Tragically, two soldiers lost their lives during the operation.
During mop-up operations, troops recovered a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, as well as several destroyed motorcycles used by the insurgents. Numerous terrorist bodies were found, with blood trails suggesting even more casualties along their escape routes.
In a separate but related incident, troops also repelled another attack on the Forward Operating Base in Kumshe, killing additional terrorists. Troops have reaffirmed their commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action and sustaining offensive pressure to ensure lasting peace and the restoration of socio-economic activities in the Northeast, in line with OPHK's mandate.
