Operation Hadin Kai Troops Arrest Chadian National, Intercept Drug Consignment Linked to Terrorists in Lake Chad

Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have intercepted a suspected foreign drugcourier and recovered a large consignment of illicit substances and prohibited items allegedly destined for terrorist groups operating in the Lake Chad Islands.

The operation was carried out on Thursday, July 9, 2026, following intelligence that led troops to conduct intensified search operations along the Maiduguri–Monguno axis in Borno State.

During the operation, troops intercepted a suspicious vehicle heading towards Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area. A 48-year-old Chadian national identified as Mrs Rachael Samuel, from Kelo in Chari-Baguirmi Province, Republic of Chad, was arrested while transporting the items.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered substances were allegedly being moved to locations within the Lake Chad Islands, an area known to have the presence of terrorist elements.

Items recovered from the suspect include seven compressed bundles of suspected Cannabis sativa weighing about 30 kilogrammes, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, popularly known as “Suck and Die,” one carton containing 48 bottles of dry gin, 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages, a mobile phone, two ATM cards, cash, and other personal belongings.

The suspect remains in military custody, while the recovered exhibits have been secured for handover to relevant law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

The Theatre Command stated that the interception represents another setback to terrorist logistics networks, noting that illicit drugs and intoxicants are often exploited by criminal groups to support violent operations.

Operation HADIN KAI commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorists and their collaborators across the North-East. Members of the public were also urged to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
