NIGERIA, SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE SET TO INCREASE MILITARY PRESENCE IN GULF OF GUINEA

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor has pledged Nigeria's commitment to increase the existing bilateral defence synergy between Nigeria Armed Forces and that of Sao Tome and Principe. 

He disclosed this when he played host to the CDS of the Armed Forces of Sao Tome and Principe, Brigadier General Idalecio Pachire, in Abuja on Monday. 

Eons Intelligence gathered that the crux of the meeting between the two Defence Chiefs centred on the critical issues, especially the role both nations Armed Forces play in securing the Gulf of Guinea. 

A statement from the Defence Headquarters stated that Gen. Irabor pledged commitment to further tackle the hydra-eaded issues of piracy and other forms of criminality within the Gulf of Guinea corridors. The two Defence Chiefs also discussed capacity building of Sao Tome personnel, joint exercises and training assistance, among others. 


The guest also paid a visit to the Nigerian Navy Headquarters as well as the Defence Intelligence Agency in Abuja. He thanked the Nigerian people and Government for what he described as a long standing history. He said the two country's diplomatic and military collaboration has been a fruitful one over the years.
