GUNMEN ABDUCT CATHOLIC PRIEST IN KOGI

Gunmen abducted a Catholic Priest in Obangede, the headquarters of the Okehi Local Government Area, amid increasing insecurity in parts of the State. Rev. Fr. Christopher Onotu was abducted from his church premises on Saturday night.

Available report indicates that the gunmen invaded the vicarage at about 9:00 pm and whisked the clergyman away. However, most of his church members were not aware of his abduction till Sunday when the Priest was absent from early morning Mass.

Reacting to the kidnapping on Sunday evening, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Aya, said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka has deployed a high-power intelligence team to ensure the kidnappers are apprehended, and the Priest is rescued unhurt.

“The commissioner has already deployed personnel,” he said.

“A manhunt has been launched for the perpetrators to be arrested. We are collaborating with the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to ensure the clergy’s release.”

Recall the abduction of the cleric comes days after explosion hit the venue of annual festival in Okene LGA of Kogi state.
