FOUR KILLED, OTHERS MISSING AS SUSPECTED HERDSMEN ATTACK ENUGU COMMUNITY
At least four residents of Ikpakpara village in Agu-Amede, Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, have been confirmed dead following an attack by suspected herdsmen on Sunday evening.
According to Ogbuzuru Ebe, a community leader who spoke to SaharaReporters by phone on Monday, the victims were killed on their farms. He further revealed that seven other individuals remain unaccounted for, prompting the launch of search operations to recover the missing persons, either dead or alive.
"We just recovered four bodies of people killed on their farms. We are looking for seven people who are still missing after the attack," Ebe said, noting that details of the incident were still emerging.
The attack is the latest in a string of violent assaults allegedly perpetrated by herdsmen in Eha-Amufu, where dozens of farmers have been killed in recent months. Residents have also reported widespread cases of sexual violence and destruction of farmlands.
Community leaders expressed outrage over the continued insecurity, decrying what they describe as the government's failure to take proactive measures to prevent further bloodshed. The local government chairman has also come under criticism for his perceived inaction and lack of support for community-based security efforts.
The incident has reignited public concern over the deteriorating security situation in Enugu State and the urgent need for coordinated action to address the persistent farmer-herder conflict.
The community is calling on the state and federal governments to deploy more security personnel to the area, ensure the protection of lives and property, and engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve the crisis.
