FG INCREASE ELECTRICITY TARIFF ACROSS THE COUNTRY

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved an increase in electricity tariff across the country.

According to a statement issued by Sanusi Garba, NERC Chairman, on December 31, he said the new tariff will take effect from January 1.

He stated that the new tariff will be enforced until the issuance of another minor review order by the commission.

The NERC Chairman noted that some of the indices considered for the increase include; Nigeria’s inflation rate, exchange rate, US rate of inflation, available generation capacity, gas price, MDA losses and capex adjustment.

This is coming just two months after the Federal Government approved a hike in electricity tariff in November 2020.
