Delta Police arrest suspected kidnappers, rescue abducted victims, and recover 178 live cartridges
The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal possession of ammunition across the state. The coordinated operations, driven by intelligence-led policing and swift tactical response, were successfully executed in Bomadi, Asaba, and Ubeji communities.
On 30 October 2025, at about 12:30 p.m., operatives of the Bomadi Division, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Adie Peter Bissong, in collaboration with the Bomadi Vigilante, intercepted a motorcycle along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road during a joint stop-and-search operation. The cyclist, who appeared uneasy, was conveying a 62-year-old woman, later identified as Charter Timide, to Tuomo Community. Upon a thorough search, officers discovered a concealed sack containing 178 live cartridges neatly packed for delivery.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to purchasing the ammunition from the Onitsha Main Market, prompting further investigation into possible links with armed groups or black-market suppliers. The suspect and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Police Headquarters for discreet investigation.
In a separate operation on the same day, at about 11:40 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, received a distress call reporting a kidnapping incident at Ubeji Community, behind the Ubeji Gas Plant. Acting swiftly, the DPO deployed a team of detectives and patrol operatives to the scene. Upon arrival, the suspected kidnappers fled into an abandoned poultry house within the community. The area was immediately cordoned off, leading to the arrest of seven suspects: Felix Omone (33), Solomon Omone (29), Tony Eboye (34), Omone David (32), Jerry Omone (33), Godspower Omone (25), and Edewho Bomele (33) — all residents of Ubeji Community.
The operation also led to the rescue of three male victims from Jeddo Community, who were later reunited with their families. Preliminary findings revealed that the victims were abducted from a dredging site in Ubeji, ferried across the river, and later threatened with death if ransom demands were not met.
All arrested suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend their fleeing accomplices and recover additional weapons used in the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the professionalism, dedication, and swift response of the officers involved in the successful operations. He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Delta State of kidnapping networks, armed robbery syndicates, and illegal arms trafficking.
CP Olufemi also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in maintaining peace and public safety across the state.
