The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has declared ‘total lockdown’ of parts of Port Harcourt, the state capital from Saturday, 18th April.

The Governor who expressed his frustration following disobedience of his directives on closure of some markets and other business places to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

He particularly lamented that stores and houses were being converted into markets in clear disobedience of the orders.

He said: “Lockdown will be done in some areas (of Port Harcourt). I will shutdown some parts of the town, indefinitely if need be.”

Wike said he contemplated total lockdown of the state but decided against it.

He vowed to deal with markets, traders and other business owners who disobey the shutdown order, stressing that such business places could be acquired by the state in public interest.
