Anambra police arrest two suspected illicit drug dealers, recover drugs worth N6.2 million and N598,400 cash
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs valued at N6.2 million, alongside N598,400 in cash.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of 11 August 2026, at a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The operation was conducted as part of intensified efforts by the Command to dismantle criminal hideouts and disrupt the activities of criminal networks in the state.
The suspects were identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia.
According to the Police, a search of the location led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs, with an estimated street value of N6,200,000. The operatives also recovered N598,400 in cash.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, while the location was reportedly being used as a meeting point by suspected criminal elements after carrying out their activities. Some individuals reportedly fled the area after sighting the police.
The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigators work to determine the source and distribution network of the recovered substances, identify other individuals connected to the operation and establish the circumstances surrounding the cash recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led raids, targeted operations and proactive policing aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and denying criminals safe havens across the state.
He urged residents, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to continue providing the police with timely and credible information about suspicious individuals, criminal activities and known criminal hideouts.
