28 Kidnap Victims Rescued as Police Foil Bandit Attacks in Katsina
Police operatives in Katsina State have rescued 28 victims from the hands of suspected kidnappers and foiled two separate bandit attacks in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
This was made known in a press release issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who said the operations were part of an intensified campaign against criminal elements under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu.
Aliyu disclosed that the first rescue occurred on Monday, July 29, around 9:24 a.m., after armed bandits ambushed commuters along the Sabuwa-Kaya road near Inno Junction and abducted 14 persons. The Divisional Police Officer immediately led a tactical response team to the area, engaging the attackers in a shootout which forced them to retreat. All 14 abductees were freed unharmed. However, a 27-year-old man identified as Abba from Funtua was killed by the fleeing bandits.
A second incident was reported late on Sunday, July 28, at about 11:27 p.m., when bandits stormed Zagaizagi village in the same LGA and kidnapped several residents. Again, the DPO led a prompt intervention that resulted in the safe recovery of 14 more captives and the retrieval of two rustled cattle. Sadly, two villagers lost their lives during the invasion.
The police say efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects involved in the attacks.
Commissioner Bello Shehu praised the officers for their swift and courageous actions and encouraged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement by sharing timely and reliable information. He reiterated the command’s unwavering dedication to securing communities across the state.
