Troops Rescue 31 Kidnap Victims, Eliminate Five Terrorists in Operations Across Zamfara and Katsina

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded significant successes in ongoing counterterrorism operations across Zamfara and Katsina states, rescuing 31 kidnapped victims, neutralising five terrorists, and dismantling several criminal hideouts.

According to military authorities, the rescued victims were freed during a coordinated air and ground operation conducted around the Bagega–Kawaye axis in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation followed a precision airstrike by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA targeting terrorist enclaves located west of Bagega Forest. Ground troops subsequently advanced into the area, leading to the successful rescue of 31 abductees who had reportedly spent several weeks in captivity.

The victims were identified as residents of communities in Maga, Gummi, Zuru, Wasugu, Bukuyyum, and Anka local government areas across Zamfara and Sokoto states. They have since received medical attention and are expected to be reunited with their families.

In a separate offensive operation within Zamfara State, troops engaged terrorists operating around the Maradun and Gidan Dan Jaja axis. The encounter resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists and the destruction of several camps used by the criminal elements.

Security forces also recovered a number of locally fabricated rifles and four motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.

Meanwhile, in Katsina State, troops intercepted armed terrorists moving through the Ruwan Godiya axis and Sayaya Road in Matazu Local Government Area. Intelligence reports indicated that the group was allegedly en route to carry out an attack.

A fierce gun battle ensued, during which three terrorists were neutralised. Troops recovered motorcycles, weapons, and quantities of ammunition from the scene.

Military sources disclosed that one of the terrorists killed during the operation was identified as an associate of notorious terrorist leader Muhammad Fulani.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist and bandit groups across the North-West, stressing that ongoing operations are aimed at restoring lasting peace and protecting communities in the region.
