Troops repel terrorist ambush, uncover hideouts in Borno
Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The encounter occurred on September 7, 2026, while the troops were conducting a routine patrol along the axis. The terrorists reportedly opened the ambush, but the troops responded and forced them to withdraw from the area.
Reinforcements were subsequently deployed, allowing the troops to clear the ambush site and conduct further operations in the surrounding area.
During the operation, troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used as temporary staging and hideout locations by the terrorists. Recovered items included a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs.
No military personnel were injured or killed during the encounter, although some military vehicles sustained damage. Despite the damage, the troops remained operational and completed the mission.
The military said the operation demonstrates the continued efforts of Operation HADIN KAI to restrict terrorist activities and protect communities across the theatre.
It urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to security agencies.
